Located very close to the India Myanmar border, the 642 hectare Fakim Sanctuary is a highlight on a wildlife tour of Nagaland. A good variation in landscape can be seen here due to the hills, high peaks, deep valleys and narrow valleys in the area. Variation in altitude ensures considerable diversity in vegetation. Due to heavy rainfall in the area, forests have grown. Therefore many species of ferns and orchids can be seen here. The conservation of the Blythe tragopan has been the inspiration for the formation of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to undisturbed pristine forest drained by various rivulets and streams.

Animals: Himalayan black bear, spotted deer, sambar deer, golden jackal, barking deer, Assamese macaque, monitor lizard, capped langur, Burmese rock python, Burmese tortoise, 200 species of butterflies, insects, high diversity of bird species.

Plants: Artocarpus sp, Terminalia chebula, Tectona grandis, Messua ferrea, Bischofia javanica, Ficus spp, Spondias sp, Castinopsis sp, Anthocephalus kadamba, Bombax ceiba, Tetramelus nudiflora, Trevia nudiflora, Bauhausia sp, Largstroemia sp.

Located just a few kilometers from Kohima, Puliyabadze Wildlife Sanctuary in Jotsoma village is famous for its huge diversity of birds. It is named after the majestic Mount Pulibadze-Puli, which is 7532 feet high and covers an area of 9.23 sq km. Tourists can enjoy the jungle trek from Kohima, this route is so spectacular and charming. The mountain has political-historical significance since the Japanese attack on Kohima during World War II. The presence of green pastures, hills and waterfalls around the sanctuary enhances its natural beauty. The sanctuary is rich in flora and has many medicinal plants and bamboo varieties.

Rangpahar Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Dimapur district, is a major wildlife destination. Its serene environment and picturesque landscape provide mesmerizing views of nature. It provides shelter to various wild animals such as mammals, birds, reptiles as well as some rare, endangered and endemic plants. The sanctuary also supports many rare and important plants of medicinal importance. There are some other interesting sites very close to the wildlife sanctuary, which include Dzukou Valley, Japfu Peak, Kachari Ruins, Triple Falls, Langpangkong Caves. It also has an associated zoological park – Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar.

Singphan Wildlife Sanctuary in Mon district of Nagaland is the 30th elephant reserve in the country. The sanctuary is located close to the Abhaypur Reserve Forest of Assam state and will form an important ecological corridor that facilitates the movement of these gentle giants. The creation of the sanctuary will enable proximity to forests that have traditionally been home to elephants and thus act as a catalyst for conservation. The area has extremely diverse endemic fauna and flora and the local forests are of moist deciduous evergreen type. The rich fauna diversity of the area is a dream come true for any wildlife lover.

Animals: Elephants, tigers, leopa barking deer, mountain goats, wild boars, bears.

Plants: Blue Vanda, white orchid, foxtail, wild lily, maple.
