Wildlife Sanctuaries of Maharashtra
Amba Barwa Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is a satellite of the larger and better known Melghat. Tigers and leopards are the main attractions of the sanctuary. This area is the catchment area of the Van Irrigation Project. From the point of view of devotees, the importance of Ambabarwa Sanctuary is unique. There is a high and inaccessible mountain on the left side at Mangeri place in the sanctuary. It is called the mountain of Mangri Mahadev.
Another attraction of the sanctuary is the temple of Lord Shiva which is situated in the lush green hills of Satpura and as the name suggests, is situated on the summit. Climbing the peak is thrilling, but it is also a great place to experience nature up close. This is a must visit place for trekkers coming to Satpura to enjoy climbing. At this place, a temple has been constructed by carving a large corner of stone.

Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. The name of the sanctuary comes from the Andhari River, which runs through the forest. The region has a huge biodiversity of fauna with forests of teak, sal, semel and others prominent.

Aner Dam Wildlife Sanctuary
Aner Dam Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the south-western border of the Satpura range. The sanctuary is one of a group of protected areas including the Yawal Sanctuary. It is situated in the foothills of Satpura range.

Bhamragarh is located in Chandrapur district, widely known as the land of Tadoba Andhari. The ground vegetation can be classified as moist deciduous mixed forests. You can go to the forest in your car or van. Hiring a guide is recommended. Bhamragarh Wildlife Sanctuary, due to its proximity to major cities of Maharashtra, is visited by many tourists from different places to enjoy the herbal beauty. The Pamalgautam and Paralkota rivers flow through the sanctuary and provide water to the flora and fauna as well as the tribes living nearby, especially the Gonda and Madiya tribes, who depend on the forest for their habitat. Part of the Sahyadri mountain range of the picturesque Western Ghats, Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the summit of the Western Ghats. The Indian Giant Squirrel is the flagship species of this sanctuary which is named after the Bhimashankar Temple. This Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga temple is apparently one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (self-emerging Shiva temples) of India, which explains why it is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus across the country.

Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary
Maharashtra is one of the six Indian states in which the endangered Great Indian Bustard is found. The dry, drought-prone landscape of Solapur district is the setting of this sanctuary. This extensive grassland provides a viable habitat to the Great Indian Bustard as well as some migratory birds. The sanctuary was discovered in 1972 by Shri B.S.Kulkarni. In 1979, the Government of Maharashtra declared the Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary as a wildlife sanctuary with the sole objective of preserving the rare species of Great Indian Bustard, which is in danger of extinction.

Jayakwadi is a small sanctuary. It consists of several islands surrounded by shallow water. Being close to Nath Sagar Lake, the bird sanctuary has favorable conditions for aquatic flora and fauna. Nath Sagar Lake is home to more than 50 species of fish which attract storks and cranes. And more than 70 species of birds that can be seen in this sanctuary are migratory birds. Some of the migratory birds that can be seen here are glossy ibis, flamingo, teal, pochard and brahminy duck.

The sanctuary is also known as Kalsubai Harishchandragarh Wildlife Sanctuary because it has two places on its border, Kalsubai and Harishchandragarh. The sanctuary is located in rugged terrain, surrounded by the Sahyadri Hills. It is located in Akole tehsil of Ahmednagar district. The sanctuary is rich in a variety of flora and fauna and is popular among trekkers as a challenging area. Kalsubai peak, found in the same region, is at an altitude of about 1,650 metres, one of the highest points in the Western Ghats.

The Karanja Sohol Blackbuck Sanctuary was created in 2000 to preserve the blackbuck population. The name of this sanctuary is derived from Karanja town and Sohal village. The sanctuary is a part of the catchment area of the Aden Reservoir and forms an aquatic habitat for many floral and faunal species. Almost the entire district is drained by the rivers Purna, Katepurna, Aadan and Penganga. The sanctuary attracts a large number of winter migratory birds between November and March. The landscape is undulating and offers interesting contrasts between plateaus and plains. The path is undulating and interspersed with open grasslands and wooded areas.

Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary
Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary and natural World Heritage Site, located in the Satara district of Maharashtra state, India. Furthermore, this wildlife sanctuary has been designated as an Important Bird Area. The sanctuary is located in the Western Ghats, covering an area of approximately 423.55 km2 (163.53 sq mi), and ranging from an altitude of 600 to 1,100 m (2,000 to 3,600 ft). Malvan Marine Sanctuary
Malvan Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the richest coastal areas of India, which was put on the world map in 1987. Melghat Wildlife Sanctuary was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1967, and was declared a tiger reserve in 1974. It was one of the first nine tiger reserves notified in 1973–74 under Project Tiger, a wildlife conservation project launched in India in 1972 to protect tigers. The vegetation in this sanctuary has been developed by human efforts. Hard thorn trees are among the dominant species. Located in the Balaghat mountain range of the Sahyadris, Yedshi village is surrounded by Kalamb, Bhansgaon and Wadgaon districts of Osmanabad and the wildlife sanctuary extends across these areas.
