Bori Wildlife Sanctuary
Bori Wildlife Sanctuary is adjacent to the Pachmarhi Sanctuary and the Satpura National Park, the three of which form the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. This wildlife sanctuary is located on the northern border of Mandsaur and Neemuch districts in Madhya Pradesh, India. And it is spread over an area of 368.62 km square adjacent to the state of Rajasthan. Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary was notified in 1974 and some more area was added in 1983. With a diverse terrain of wooded hills – forests are dry, mixed and deciduous – and flat grasslands around the submergence area of the Gandhi Sagar Dam, it offers abundant opportunities to view wildlife diversity.

Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary
Located at the junction of Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur districts, Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, and the largest forest fragment in the region. India’s two major river valleys, the Ganges and the Narmada, are part of the sanctuary, making it an extremely unique protected area. Thus it is one of the unique PAs where such a large transitional biodiversity exists.

National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated on the Chambal River, the National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary has a unique geographical location, located near the tri-point of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Declared as a protected area in 1978 it now encompasses a long narrow eco-reserve administered simultaneously by three states. The region’s habitat houses some of the most endangered species of wildlife such as gharials, muggers, otters, red-crowned roof turtles and the endangered Ganges river dolphin.

Popular as a newly emerging hotspot for tiger and leopard sightings, Kheyoni Wildlife Sanctuary is connected through corridors with Ratapani Tiger Reserve. The habitat of the sanctuary consists of dry deciduous forests of teak, tendu and bamboo. The wide biodiversity of wildlife includes birds like jackal, palm civet, sambar and little brown pigeon.

Narsinghgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many local and migratory birds and more than 164 species of birds can be seen here. Narsinghgarh Fort, Bada Mahadev. Chhota Mahadev, Haji Wali Dargah, Saulah Khamb etc. are some other places of cultural importance.

Panpatha Wildlife Sanctuary is an important part of the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve spread across the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh literally means “Brother’s Fort”. Bandhav-garh consists of two Hindi language words. Situated between the eastern fringes of the Vindhya Range and the Satpura Range of the central Indian highlands, Bandhavgarh National Park lies mostly in Umaria district and partly in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh.

Many other tourist attractions of Ratlam include Kedareshwar Temple and Cactus Garden in the vicinity of this sanctuary. This place was created to protect and promote rare species of birds. The Sailana Sanctuary is the prime habitat of the lesser known Florican Kharmor.

Son Gharial Sanctuary is characterized by riverine islands, sand banks etc. which are important habitats for many endangered species like Indian Soft Shell Turtle, Gharial etc. About 101 species of birds have been recorded in the sanctuary. The sanctuary was established under Project Crocodile.

Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Kuno Wildlife Division of Sheopur district and is a part of the central Indian Vindhya Hills. Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary has an immense richness and diversity of native flora and fauna that represents a typical cross-section of the dry deciduous forest of central India. The wildlife sanctuary was also identified as a potentially viable site for the reintroduction of Asiatic lions and cheetahs.

Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary
Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary covers 823 sq km of the Vindhya Hills, bounded by the Kolar River in the west. An untamed forest of teak and bamboo, interspersed with crocodile bark and tendu trees, the area was declared a sanctuary in 1976 and efforts are now underway to notify the area as a tiger reserve. With hills and plains, seasonal streams and rocky cliffs, Ratapani’s range of habitats supports an abundance of wildlife. The royal striped cat is the top predator here and an estimated 40 tigers roam these forests along with leopards, sloth bears, jackals and hyenas.

Gangau Wildlife Sanctuary
Established in 1975, Gangau is a small wildlife sanctuary located on the banks of the Ken River in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Spread over an area of 69 sq km, it acts as an important buffer to the Panna National Park. This sanctuary is 38 km south-west of Khajuraho. Gangau is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary comprises the regional forests of the present North and South Panna Forest Division. Major animal species found here include striped hyena, spotted deer, sambar, langur, bluebull deer, Indian rabbit and wild boar.
Animals: Tiger, leopard, wild dog, wolf, hyena, caracal, sloth bear, sambar, spotted deer, chausingha, bluebull, chinkara; White-necked Stork, Bar-headed Goose and other migratory ducks, Oriental Honey Buzzard, King Vulture, Plum-headed Parrot, Paradise Flycatcher, Slaty-headed Scimitar Babbler.
Plants: Teak wood, Coromandel ebony, Mahua, Chironji tree, Axle wood tree, Kardhai, Indian ash tree, Salai Guggulu.
