Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is named after the Sitanadi River, whose origin is located in the middle of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is known for its lush vegetation and rich and unique fauna including tigers, leopards and high diversity of birds. Apart from the Sitanadi, the Sondur and Lelang rivers also cross the expanse of this region. Although the sanctuary is open to visitors throughout the year, the best time to visit is the winter season. Guides have been provided in the sanctuary for the convenience of visitors.

Animals: tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, jungle cat, marbled cat, wild dog, fishing cat, jackal, gaur, elephant, sambar, hog deer, barking deer, wild boar, flying squirrel and rhesus macaque; Common Krait, Cat Snake, Rat Snake, Snake Eyed Lacerta, Grass Skink, Fan Throated Lizard, Rock Agama.

Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary is characterized by dense lush green sal and bamboo forests and an amazing wildlife viewing experience. It is located near Amarkantak, a popular pilgrimage site and the source of the Narmada River. It houses innumerable endangered species like leopard, tiger and gaur. A majestic looking jet black leopard has also been spotted in the sanctuary.

Animals: tiger, leopard, gaur, spotted deer, striped hyena, Indian jackal, sloth bear, dhole, sambar, bluebull, four-horned antelope, chinkara, black buck, Indian muntjac and wild boar; Spotted owls, red jungle fowl, racket-tailed drongo, peacocks, parrots, steppe eagles, red spur fowl, phacta, tree pygmy.

Badalkhol Sanctuary is named after the Badalkhol forests, which used to be the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Jashpur. It is spread over four villages and has many waterfalls and canals making it an extremely picturesque area. Situated on the banks of River Eeb and River Dorki, the sanctuary is rich in wildlife. It is also home to some plants of immense medicinal importance.

Baranwapara Wildlife Sanctuary

Baranwapara Wildlife Sanctuary

Baranwapara Wildlife Sanctuary, named after the Bar and Nawapara forest villages located in the heart of the sanctuary, is one of the most famous tourist attractions of Chhattisgarh. The sanctuary has an undulating terrain, surrounded by several low and high hills as well as a good forest area in the north-eastern corner of Raipur district. Tributaries of the Mahanadi River serve as a source of water within the sanctuary. The Jonk and Balmdehi rivers form the north-eastern and western boundaries of the sanctuary respectively.

Animals: Gaur, tiger, sambar, wild boar, spotted deer, barking deer, striped hyena, leopard, dhole, sloth bear, pangolin, common palm civet, rabbit and three species of bats including the fulvous fruit bat.

Plants: Sal (Shorea robusta), Saja (Terminalia tomentosa), Teak (Tectona grandis), Beeja (Pterocarpus marsupium), Lediya (Lagerstroemia parviflora), Haldu (Adina cordifolia), Dhaura (Anozisus latifolia), Salai (Boswellia serrata), Amla (Emblica officinalis) and Amaltas (Cassia fistula) bamboo, Kullu tree (Sterculia urans).

Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, takes its name from Tamor Hill and Pingla Nala, the oldest and most prominent feature of the landscape. Vegetation mainly consists of sal, mixed and bamboo forests, the area falls under the Ghui and Biharpur ranges of the South Surguja forest division. Apart from being a viable habitat for tigers, leopards, spotted deer, etc., it is also home to Asian elephants.

Animals: Elephant, tiger, leopard, sloth bear, bluebull, spotted deer, gaur, four-horned deer, chinkara, barking deer, wild boar, wild dog, wolf, golden jackal, striped hyena, rabbit; Red jungle fowl, brown jungle fowl and green pigeon.

Named after a small village of Semarsot, Semarsot Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. It is located about 68 kilometers from Ambikapur along the Bihar border in Chhattisgarh. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the sanctuary. Its habitat consists largely of mixed deciduous forests as well as parts of riverine forests and sal forests. The astonishing diversity of wildlife within the sanctuary, including several species of native birds and reptiles, will make a visit here an unforgettable experience for any nature lover.

Located near Kawardha town in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh, Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of not only ecological, but also prehistoric features. With an average elevation of 353 meters (1,158 ft) above sea level, the expanse of the sanctuary is covered with hills and dense forests of the Maikal ranges. ‘Sakri’ river flows through the sanctuary which is the main source of water for wildlife. The sanctuary additionally forms a corridor between the Kanha National Park and Achanakmar Tiger Reserve.

Pamed Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, is very close to the state border with neighboring Andhra Pradesh. Pameda has mixed forests with abundance of sal and teak trees. It is also home to several species of famous wild animals including gaur, tiger and leopard. The area is home to vast floral biodiversity, with many native varieties of trees and plants. This sanctuary was established mainly for the purpose of conservation of wild buffaloes. It is home to many other wildlife species like tiger, leopard, barking deer etc. The unique ecosystem of the sanctuary provides a viable habitat for a significant bird population, making it an ideal place for bird-watching. Together with the Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, it forms the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, which was notified as the third tiger reserve of Chhattisgarh in the year 2008.
